Steak Dusted Hoagies

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • ¼ c. finely chopped celery
  • 13 c. finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 8 oz. (2 cups) sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 pound ground beef OR ground pork
  • 2 tsp. Durkee® Steak Dust Seasoning
  • 1 tsp. Durkee® Thyme Leaves
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. water
  • ½ c. sour cream
  • 8 hoagie rolls, split
  • 1 c. red, green OR yellow bell pepper strips
  • 8 slices cheddar OR provolone cheese

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat; add onions and celery. Sauté 5 minutes. Add remaining oil and mushrooms. Continue to sauté over medium heat 5 to 7 minutes until mushrooms are cooked through. Remove vegetables from skillet.
  2. Add ground meat, seasoning, thyme and salt to skillet; cook 8 to 10 minutes over medium heat until no longer pink. Stir in flour; pour in water. Stir with spatula until sauce is thickened; add sour cream and reserved vegetables and heat through.
  3. Evenly divide meat mixture between hoagie rolls. Top with bell pepper strips and cheese slice. Broil sandwiches 6 inches from element until cheese is melted and slightly browned. Serve immediately.
